About Cathy Calm

A deeper kind of calm for women navigating midlife

Midlife can be a strange time.

On the outside, life might look perfectly fine. But underneath, there can be a lot going on.

Children growing up and needing you in different ways. Parents getting older. Relationships changing. Work, hormones, health, identity, expectations… and that endless mental list of things that somehow always seems to belong to you.

You may find yourself worrying about things you can’t control, thinking three steps ahead, or carrying the emotional wellbeing of everyone around you.

And perhaps, like me, you sometimes wonder:

When do I get to switch off?

I’m Cathy, and I’m a qualified hypnotherapist. I trained in 2018, and over the years I’ve come to appreciate just how powerful hypnotherapy can be — not only when we’re dealing with a particular problem, but when we simply want to feel differently.

Because knowing you shouldn’t worry so much doesn’t necessarily stop you worrying.

Knowing you should relax doesn’t necessarily make it happen.

And telling yourself to stop overthinking rarely works!

That’s because so much of what drives our thoughts, reactions and habits happens beneath the level of conscious thinking.

This is where self-hypnosis can help.

Cathy Calm is about creating a space where you can step away from the noise of everyday life and work at a deeper level.

Through guided hypnosis and meditation, you can begin to quiet the constant mental chatter, let go of some of the things you’re carrying, and create new ways of responding to the challenges that midlife brings.

I often describe it as being a little like giving your mind a reset.

A spa day can be wonderful. A massage, a walk, a good book, a night away — all brilliant ways to look after yourself.

But Cathy Calm is about something different.

It’s not just about giving yourself a break. It’s about changing what happens inside you when you go back to your life.

I know what it’s like to carry the mental load.

I’m a mother, and I know that particular kind of worrying that can be so difficult to switch off.

The worrying about your children. The planning. The remembering. The wondering whether they’re okay. The feeling that even when everyone else is getting on with their day, part of your brain is still quietly keeping watch.

And as our parents get older, many of us find ourselves caught in what is sometimes called the sandwich generation — looking after, worrying about or supporting both our children and our own parents, while trying to keep ourselves going somewhere in the middle.

I’ve certainly felt that pull myself.

I’m not here to tell you that I’ve discovered how to stop worrying completely. I haven’t!

But hypnotherapy has taught me that we don’t have to be at the mercy of every thought, every fear or every feeling that comes into our minds.

We can learn to respond differently.

We can create a little more space.

We can put down some of the things we’ve been carrying.

And we can start to feel more like ourselves again.

Cathy Calm is for women who are ready for a reset.

The audios here are designed to help you relax, reflect and make changes at a deeper level — whether you want to sleep better, feel calmer, let go of the mental load, build confidence, or simply feel more grounded in yourself.

And because I know that the word hypnosis can sound a little intimidating, some of these will be described simply as meditations.

But whether you think of it as meditation, guided relaxation or self-hypnosis, the idea is the same:

creating the space for your mind to slow down, reset and make room for something new.

And this is just the beginning.

Cathy Calm will eventually grow into a supportive group programme for women who want to make a more lasting midlife reset — not by trying to become a completely different person, but by reconnecting with the woman who is already there.

Because this stage of life doesn’t have to be about holding everything together.

It can be about deciding what you want to carry forward — and what you’re finally ready to put down.
